Windshield glass is laminated, unlike the rest of the glass on your car, which tends to be tempered. Tempered glass is considered safety glass due to the manner in which it shatters. Laminated glass, a different kind of safety glass, is shatter-proof. You can repair the windshield, but when your car’s side and back glass is damaged, it has to be replaced.

SDAT is the amount of time your vehicle needs to remain off the road before the installed auto glass part can properly operate as a safety device.  Vehicles with passenger-side airbags have more requirements to Safe Drive Away Time because of the extra strength needed to hold up the deployment of the passenger-side airbag. Either more time or a faster-acting auto glass adhesive is needed.  Federal  Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) requirements are met and your car is safe to drive when the auto glass adhesive manufacturer’s Safe Drive Away Time calculations are met by your installer.  Typically this is one-hour.
